about
The Hills Have Eyes returns in anticipation towards his next EP, with a new single Sept 1st, ‘Head Over Heels’. ‘H.OH (Head Over Heels)’ addresses the presence of personal gain and regret in relationships with both verses translating a different perspective towards a past lover. One of melancholy & regret, and the second of bitterness & ego. The track’s hook describes this toxic dynamic as a physical place where misery loves company and attracts new romantic partners to inhabit the artist’s own insecurities & heartache; “Said she’s never been before, Now she lives in The Hills and calls it home”.
The production ties these sections together fluently, sonically building towards the climax and chaos of the track’s final chorus. Beginning simply with a cold isolated piano loop for the first half of the track, a deep ambient base introduced in the second verse and a barrage of intense layered synths and fast pace drum tracks demand attention in the track’s climax only to feather out back into the soft lonely piano. All these production elements coming together to define a storyline within the soundscape of the song’s arrangement.
‘Head Over Heels’ is a statement piece in return by The Hills Have Eyes, reintroducing his ambient electronic hybrid style, defined with his 2022 debut EP ‘Love Me Not’, but with elements of creation and quality elevated in writing, performance, production, & composition.
